The story

Temporal built 2,000 hackable electronic badges for its Replay conference (Moscone, San Francisco, May 2026): an ESP32-S3 board with an OLED screen, an 8x8 LED matrix and a joystick, with open-source firmware on GitHub and apps (Doom included) preloaded. The back of the PCB is etched with Ziggy, Temporal's tardigrade mascot, as an astronaut. The engineer behind it wrote a making-of titled 'I haven't slept since December'.

What stands out

Open firmware plus a hidden mascot on the back makes a badge something to flip over, show off and keep hacking.
